Brainiac Dating offers something a little different. This is a dating site for people who wish to meet members who are smarter than your average bear. It focuses on arts, culture, sciences and other intellectual pursuits as a way of finding common grounds between its members. It’s now completely free, too, so finding a clever date won’t cost you a cent.

Since becoming free, the site seems to have made a few changes. One of those is that it no longer seems to offer video options. This is a shame, but it’s understandable. Allowing members to chat via webcam can be expensive to run, and frankly we’re just happy that it’s still going whilst providing other useful features to its members.

Community is key on BrainiacDating, and you’re actively encouraged to upload information about your favorite books, movies, artists and more. In fact, you can upload poems and store poems you enjoy, sharing them with your favorite members as a way to get chats going. You won’t find that on many dating sites, rest assured!

Blog posting is big on this site too, and you can write as many posts as you like, following and commenting on messages that other members post. Again, this allows you to meet people you might not otherwise have spoken to, allowing your relationship to flourish based on mutual interests rather than simply looking at a sparse profile page.

Profiles are a little brief compared with some, but that makes signing up all the quicker. You can include extra information if you wish, which can also be used to help find matches based on your personal preferences. Our test searches provided an acceptable number of results, but you probably won’t be inundated with messages because there aren’t large numbers of members in each area.

Members can upload up to 15 photos, and we were pleased to find that many members had provided decent snaps. The site's administrative team also checks each profile submitted to make sure it’s genuine before it goes live, meaning that false profiles are kept to a minimum. Although a little short on members, at least the people who use the site are there for the right reasons.

Finding members and sorting them is simple. You can perform a basic or advanced search, as well as being able to tag members, find out who has viewed you and create a hot list. 

A few extra features (suited to the brainy members) include trivia, IQ tests, quizzes and more. These provide fun asides whilst you’re waiting for a reply, and you can choose to share your results with others. 

As we mentioned, BraniacDating.com is free to use. This is really great to see because it means you can find intellectual dates without having to pay anything. Balancing off against the relatively low membership numbers, we think that it’s definitely worth signing up and checking out if you’re someone who looks for a stimulating talk about the world and the world of dating.
