Editor's Review:

Guardian Soulmates is an online dating platform which will appeal to single professionals who are looking for dates in the UK. It has a very strong London membership, with other popular areas also covered. The site keeps things simple, with clear, professional profiles, messaging services and search options to help you find your ideal professional partner.

Although the website isn’t exclusively for professional singles, it does attract a lot of professional members. This is integrated into the profile building process, as you can describe your job and living situation, educational background and more.

Profiles are basic but contain the key information people need to make an informed decision on whether or not to contact you. You can also upload multiple high quality photos, with your primary photo being the only image available to free users. The amount of information a free user can access is also restricted, so you can make sure your more personal details are kept out of the public eye.

Building your profile is simple, and the free service allows you enough freedom to understand how the site functions and to seek out potential matches. You can include your personal preferences and find out which members will suit you, plus you can update your profile page with new information and photos. To make contact, though, you will need to upgrade your account.

GuardianSoulmates charges a fair price for its upgraded service, and whilst its 1 month membership is a little steep, there are significant savings to be made on longer contracts. These longer contracts offer really good value for money, especially since a lot of professional dating websites charge a premium for linking up with other professionals.

To find a date, you can either perform a search, check your matches, or browse popular profiles. Searching doesn’t include details such as appearance or income, which might put some people off, but this does mean that you’re more likely to meet people who are a little different to whom you’d normally be attracted. Alternatively, you can view your matches, which are based on which members share your common interests. Finally, the site’s “popular” options allow you to view profiles which have been popular with other members.

When it comes to communicating, Soulmates.TheGuardian.com allows you to send private messages to members. This keeps things fairly personal, but if you’re someone who enjoys more community features then you might wish to seek out a website which offers a forum.

It gets all the basics right, for an affordable price, and with plenty of attractive, professional members.

Talking of community features, this site offers a blog to help you out with dating locations, tips and advice. These are really useful articles which include restaurant reviews, club details and much more. If you’re stuck for ideas on where to go for a date, this is a really handy section to check out.

If you’re in need of a little motivation, GuardianSoulmates’ “stories” pages allow members to share their success stories or funny moments, giving you a bit of a morale boost. There are plenty of people who’ve found their partner through the site, which is always reassuring.

Dating advice and safety information is available to anyone who is interested in staying safe on and offline. This can be really important, and The Guardian clearly takes this information seriously. Help is also available through a general FAQ, or you can find technical assistance online. It’s easy to block members if you’re receiving undesired attention from them, or report them if necessary.

When it comes to building a roster of members you like, this couldn’t be simpler. Just view a profile, click “like” and they’re added to a list of your favourite members. This list can then be used to better filter your search results and matches, improving your chances of success. You can even hide profiles from appearing in your search results if you’re sure that someone’s not your type and you don’t wish to consider them.

Guardian Soulmates is a relatively basic site, but it’s effective at helping professional people to find dates in the UK. We recommend joining for free and performing a few searches to find out whether you’re interested in any members in your area. If you happen to live in London, you’ll have plenty of options, but much smaller areas tend to have limited membership numbers. Still, this is a UK-specific website so you won’t be inundated with messages from people who live thousands of miles away.

Guardian Soulmates has a solid dating backbone. It gets all the basics right, for an affordable price, and with plenty of attractive, professional members. Whilst it’s a little lacking in terms of features, if playing games and joining chat rooms isn’t of interest to you, then this is a dating website worth considering.
